Most of the Northeastern Thai I have come across are farmers dependent primarily on rain-fed agriculture. Major crops are paddy rice, cassava and sugar cane. Like other Thai groups, they also raise cattle. Availability of fresh fruits, vegetables and fish varies with the seasons.
Agricultural production remains low, due to the relatively dry climate and the saltiness of the soil which has led to many families to look for alternative sources of income. It is also the reason why Northeastern Thai have applied years of dedication to produce their world famous mud-mee silk.
During my time In Isan I meet some of the hardest working, versatile and highly skilled people I have ever met. Rising early to work the paddy fields followed by long shifts in the factories I found all generation of this family were dedicated to theirs jobs and each other.
Through this website I hope to give you an insight into the every day life of a Isan Thai family and to bring you products as a result of their hardwork and dedication.
